COERR Mae Sarieng Organized Disaster Risk Reduction Training for Emergency Team in camps

   COERR Mae Sarieng organized an intensive DRR Training Course to enable a Refugee Emergency Response Team to be set up in Ban Mae Lama Luang and Ban Mae La Oon camps, Mae Hong Son Province.

   The Training was held during March 4-8, 2019 at Mae La Noi Municipality Office in Mae Hong Son. Trainers were the Municipality DRR officers, fire fighters, hospital nurses, etc. The trainees were expected to acquire skills from the theory and practice in this training to use in emergency situation, as well as to transfer knowledge to other refugees.

   Contents of the first day of this training were about preparedness for evacuation of people during incidents; fire drill planning, evacuation based on the past Ban Mae Surin big fire; preparedness in case of earthquake; drought; cold spell; floods; making fire break; mapping hazard areas and safety areas for evacuation during the situation.

   The second day of the training was about first aid techniques for emergency situations: how to treat cuts, bites, burns and scalds; evacuation/transport; and using Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

   The third day was about learning how to efficiently use rope rescue techniques; how to store and take proper care of rope; how to calculate the safe working load of the rope; how to tie knots correctly and fast, etc.

  

   The fourth day of the training was about fire prevention and fire extinguishing; how to put out kitchen fire / gas stove; how to use fire extinguisher, in order to reduce casualty of lives and properties.

  

   The last day of the training was about Incident Command System (ICS) as coordinating of several units to deal with emergency situations smoothly and fast, for proper life and property saving. Finally, a team of emergency response, including chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, coordinator, members, etc., have been formed to work in the refugee camps. The training finished with certificates provided to participants.
